3. Club Policies

(1) Purpose

a) To improve member spoken English capability

b) To educate young generation to think rationally and quickly.

c) To improveyour capability to think critically. Critical thinking will help you to understand more about the issues that you might face in the future.

d) To help you redefine your ideas into words.

e) To reduce our negative energy and use it for something useful.

f) To improve your verbal skill that will be useful in the future:

i. Presentation

ii. Persuasion

iii. Promotion, e.tc

g) To help young generation to be more confident about themselves.

h) To teach you how to defend your opinion.

i) To give more understanding of world urgent issues

j) To help gain recognition from other university by debate

k) To attract potential talents from all over the world through debates.

(2) Financial Policies

a) During the training, the projector will be a big help for us. Because of that we need to borrow our teacher card and ensure to use the projector properly.

b) We will use the waste papers from the CIS office after we get the permission from the office.

c) Attending competition (supported by CIS), the accommodations, transports, foods will be provided by the university. However, the school will not cover the leisure expenses.

d) Attending competition (without CIS support), the attendees will cover their own expenses during the competition.

(3) Management

a) International Debate Club (IDC)consists of 8 members; including 1 club manager and 1 deputy managers, who are responsible for daily management, community event planning, performance assessment, and teaching

b) Establish an official WeChat group of the club

c) We will hold a suggestion meeting for the improvement after the club activities

d) Permanent member can be replaced by other if the permanent members are not suitable for their position.

i. We will observe their behaviors during the practice period and class behavior if their performance is below average and lower than the other club members he/she will be replaces.

ii. We will observe the debaters capability during the practice if their performance are not developing for a long period of time he/she will be replaced.

(4) Election Procedure

a) The first recruitment of 8 members is selected by the supervisor and the club manager. The members are selected from the perspectives of students’ participation in enthusiasm, comprehension level, and debating ability.

b) The club manager is appointed by the supervisor, and the deputy manager is appointed by the supervisor and the club manager together.

c) At the end of each semester, the club manager and deputy managers will be elected by democratic elections.

(5) Members’ Obligations and Rights

a) Comply with the rules and regulatios of the club

b) Comply with the club’s arrangements and decisions, accept and complete the tasks assigned by the club

c) Actively take part in various activities arranged by the club

d) Members shall not act on behalf of the club to the detriment of the club

e) Members shall not act on behalf of the club to conduct acts unrelated to the club, including but not limited to distributing religion and/or political belief

f) Members who want to quit from the club should provide a withdrawal application, and it needs to be approved during the club’s regular meeting

g) Members have the right to be familiar with the club’s development and operation status, activity arrangement, financial expenditure, et cetera.

h) Members have the right to propose relevant suggestions for the development of the club

6. Risks and Safety Measures

  1. If the member of the club has any inappropriate political statements either online or offline, he/she will be expelled from the club immediately and appropriate punishment will be given by the class teacher.

  2. If the member of the club has any illegal or irregular behavior during the club’s activites, the member status will be immediately cancelled and appropriate punishment will be given by the class teacher.

  3. If there is a physical or oral conflict during the club’s activities, the club manager should be the one who takes the responsibility to investigate and report the related conflicted member(s) to the class teacher. After verification, appropriate punishment will be given by the class teacher.

  4. If the member cannot cooperate with the management and organization of the club, and/or does not actively participate in club meetings and activities, the other members in the club may do a vote to expel the related member. If more than half of the club members agree, the voted member will be kicked out from the club accordingly.

 The above risks are supervised actively by the club manager and the deputy director. The should be accountable if the supervision is not satisfying.
