Wuxi University, formerly known as Binjiang College of Nanjing University of Information Science & Technology, was founded in May 2002. It is a public undergraduate university approved by the Ministry of Education, managed by the People’s Government of Jiangsu Province, organized by Wuxi Municipal Government and supported by Nanjing University of Information Science & Technology. The university adheres to the educational philosophy of "Rooting in Wuxi, Integrating into the industry, Facing the region, and Serving the development", and has established a "trinity" educational system of Wuxi University, Postgraduate Training Base, and National University Science and Technology Park.

Located in No.333, Xishan Avenue, Wuxi, Wuxi University is adjacent to the core area of the CBD in Xidong New Urban Area, Wuxi East Railway Station and Sunan Shuofang International Airport. The university is a modern, smart, environmentally–friendly community with excellent geographical location and picturesque scenery. The campus covers a total area of more than 1100 acres and the construction area is 359,000 square meters. Currently there are more than 12,000 undergraduates, nearly 300 international students and more than 700 postgraduates combined training with NUIST.

To meet the requirements of local economic and social development, Wuxi University established 14 academic institutions, including the School of IOT Engineering, the School of Electronic Information Engineering (School of Integrated Circuit Science and Engineering), the School of Automation, the School of Railway and Transportation, the School of Atmosphere and Remote Sensing, the School of Environmental Engineering, the School of Science, the School of Digital Economy and Management, the School of Humanities, Law and Politics, the School of Media and Arts, the College of International Students, etc. Wuxi University now has 6 postgraduate programs (combined training of postgraduates with NUIST) and 45 undergraduate majors, covering 7 major fields of disciplines including Science, Engineering, Literature, Management, Economics, Laws, Art and so on. A total of 17 majors, including IOT Engineering, Electronic Information Engineering, Automation and Financial Engineering are selected as first-class undergraduate major construction sites at national and provincial levels. Electronic Science and Technology, Control Science and Engineering, Cyberspace security, Management Science and Engineering are selected as Key Disciplines in the "14th Five-Year Plan" of Jiangsu Province.

Wuxi University attaches great importance to teaching staff construction. There are 693 professional teachers. Among them, teachers with professional titles account for 42% of the whole teaching group. The Ph.D. degree rate of faculty of Wuxi University is up to 72%. More than 60 teachers are high level talents with the title of National Special Expert, Provincial Distinguished Professor, Provincial "333" high level talents, Provincial Young Academic Leaders of "Blue and Green Project", Provincial Innovative and Entrepreneurial Postgraduate.

Wuxi University takes personnel training as the central task, actively promotes the education and teaching reform. It has won two second prizes of National Teaching Achievement Award, three special prizes and second prizes of Jiangsu Teaching Achievement Award. It has also been approved 9 provincial first-class undergraduate programs and curriculum ideological and political courses, and 14 key teaching materials in Jiangsu Province.

Wuxi University students have won over 800 awards in national and provincial level "Challenge Cup" Contest, "Internet Plus" Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition and Discipline Competition. In recent years, the high-quality employment rate maintains higher than 95%, and the rate of admission to postgraduate study of Wuxi University ranks among the top in corresponding colleges. Many outstanding students are recruited by "Double First-Class" universities such as Beijing University, Nanjing University and so on, as well as famous foreign universities such as the University of California, King's College London. Since the establishment of Wuxi University, over 50,000 students have accomplished their Bachelor study. A large number of students passed National Civil Servant Examination, or hired by Global Top 500 companies, large-sized state-owned enterprises and public institutions. The quality of graduates is well received by thecommunity and the school has a large number of outstanding alumni.

Wuxi University deepens integration of production and education continuously by establishing over 100 practical training bases and signing talent cultivation contracts with more than 100 large-sized enterprises and institutions. The university built more than 20 integration entities, including the Institute of Telematics Industry, the Institute of Integrated Circuit Industry, the Institute of Digital Economy Industry, the Institute of Intelligent Manufacturing Industry, the Huawei ICT Institute, the Cyberspace Security Training Base, Jingui Innovation and Entrepreneurship Practice Education Center etc. Among them, the Institute of Telematics Industry was approved as the provincial key industry institute. Jingui Innovation and Entrepreneurship Practice Education Center is the construction site of provincial innovation and entrepreneurship practice and education centre for college students. Jiangsu Cyberspace Security Training Base has been built as the first one in Jiangsu Province, which is a comprehensive, exemplary, and applied cyberspace security training base with the combination of teaching and training, emergency response rehearsal, and popularization and propaganda.

Wuxi University lays emphasis on scientific research. In recent years, the number of national, provincial, municipal level and horizontal research subjects taken on by teachers is over 600, and high-quality research papers published by teachers over 1000. Wuxi University has won two scientific research awards at the provincial and ministerial levels and has 6 national and provincial scientific research and innovation platforms, such as National Sensor Network University Science Park, Provincial IOT Equipment Hyper-Converged Application and Safety Engineering Research Center, Provincial Integrated Circuit Reliability Technology and Testing System Engineering Research Centre, Key Open Laboratory on Ecosystem Carbon Sinks of China Meteorological Administration (CMA).

Wuxi University actively carries out international cooperation and exchanges, and has been approved as the Sino-Foreign Cooperative Education Program of the Ministry of Education and the International Talent Training Brand Major in Colleges and Universities in Jiangsu Province. It has established cooperation relations in talent cultivation, mutual recognition of academic credits, scientific research and other cooperation with more than 30 overseas universities, including George Mason University, Fort Hays State University, Novosibirsk State Technical University, Steinbeis-Hochschule Berlin, University of New South Wales, Macao University of Science and Technology, etc.
